The Global Health Program at the Kaiser Permanente, San Diego Emergency Medicine Residency aims to expose residents to global health issues and to start thinking about health care delivery outside the walls of our hospital and our borders. We have access to many international opportunities including Thailand, Haiti, Uganda and the Dominican Republic. With San Diego bordering Mexico we have the unique opportunity to do day trips for international medical work as well. Our mission is to support the resident’s international interests and develop globally thinking physicians. Our faculty have had numerous international experiences including teaching for Barefoot doctors in Myanmar, post-earthquake disaster relief in Haiti, wilderness medicine and various other health care clinics abroad. We have a curriculum that dives into tropical medicine, international disease issues and the biosocial model of global health.
